At the DiVAL Safety Summit – The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls

Primary Goal

People make mistakes. If we accept that, we can build programs designed to protect people and systems by reducing errors and managing controls. Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) allows us to anticipate error likely situations and utilize tools that give us time to make rational, emotionally intelligent, outcome oriented decisions; focus our attention; and allow us to maintain positive control of our work. By increasing our understanding of HOP, we can lead people how they are and not the way we wish they were.

This program will introduce HOP, its practical application, and explain how it can be successfully implemented. Topics covered include HOP principles, performance modes, traps, triggers and tools. It will also discuss culture, leadership, risk tolerance, hazard and risk mitigation, human fallibility, latent organizational weaknesses, the anatomy of an event and incident analysis.

The primary goal is to apply HOP tools to reduce errors & manage controls.

Instructors:

  • Doug Hill, CUSP
  • David McPeak, CUSP, CSP, CHST, CIT, CSSM

To do that, you will leave with the skills to:

  • Predict, manage, and prevent error likely situations
  • Correlate behavior to individual, team, & organizational influences
  • Use positive reinforcement to achieve high levels of performance
  • Apply lessons learned from past successes, events, and errors
